Dapplegrey 2.0.7
"What does white horse in jam glass?"
Control a wide variety of DOSBox options by using this Universal Binary frontend.

Version 2.0.7

In the past Dapplegrey checks the applications folder and subfolders of the Applications folder for DOSBox.app. Now, if DOSBox can't be found there, the frontend checks also its own folder for DOSBox.app, before you will be asked for it.

I hope the function "Mount this folder as drive C: " has been fixed now. At least, if you re-allocate the game exe file, the subfolders list (where you choose the mount point of the emulated Drive C:) will be re-created now. Without that, this function wasn't complete yet.

Other changes are:

  • When using the non-official Universal Binary port of DOSBox 0.65, the menu command "Kill DOSBox" doesn't work at all, so this menu command will be deactivated now, if you're using this version of DOSBox. Unfortunately, if you've installed multiple DOSBox versions beside 0.65, there will be still started another instance of a newer version of DOSBox without calling the DOS app you wanted to run. If that happens to you, just switch to DOSBox 0.65 by using Cmd-TAB keyboard shortcut.
  • If the Keyboard shortcut window is open, when DOSBox starts, that window remains visible now.

What is Dapplegrey?

Dapplegrey is a frontend for the MacOS X DOSBox port (which you can get from http://www.dosbox.com/ ) written in REALbasic.
With Dapplegrey you can easily set options the DOSBox gives to you w/o having to enter them manually using the Terminal or have to edit the DOSBox config file. This file will be written before Dapplegrey tells DOSbox to start.
The name Dapplegrey comes from the german word Apfelschimmel which originally means a white horse, ambiguous with the meaning of a rotten apple
(assuming using a PC emulator like DOSBox rots your Apple Macintosh, which isn't really true):

In the canteen of their firm the colleagues are taking their lunch.
A foreign colleague asks his german one:
„What is Schimmel?"
The german colleague replies: „Schimmel is a white horse."
The foreign asks back: „What does white horse in jam glass?"

This explains why this application has been called Dapplegrey.

Although Dapplegrey runs on a G3 including successor model with MacOS 10.3 and above, DOSBox itself requires a G4 or successor model with MacOS X 10.4 and newer.
Supporting the PowerPC G3 by Dapplegrey enables you still to manage an older version of the DOSBox port (v0.65 or newer) on your middle-ancient Mac. There is none DOSBox binary included with this frontend, you've to grab it yourself.

Dapplegrey may be included in any CD-ROM shareware and freeware disks. Please keep the application and it's Readme files together in one archive file.
