Switch To Apple

Hardcore Arguments

"If you can't set up an internet connection, just download the newest internet driver software from the web."

Apple Macintosh. The alternative to windy OS since 1984.

1.

Which graphic card should I plug in?

NanoSaur requires an ATI graphics accelerator.

That's not a question we are thinking of. Mac hardware is perfect for working together. Just switchers who have PC in mind are wondering about.

See this: If game publishers have the buyers of their games to plug in a particular graphics card, they will not sell any copies of their games.

Mac users don't want to exchange parts of their hardware. That's why they buy Macs.

=

Not a question

=

Which driver supports this and thus?

2.

Too many cooks spoil the broth

A further not to underestimating advantage is that hardware and software come from ONE hand, called Apple Computer. Naturally you can install also hardware and its driver software offered by third-offerers, usually represent no problem, as long as hardware and operating system can deal with it. Try this with Windows! Compatibility means: "May fit, if is done a look into around 5000 other things"

=

Must be aware about your MacOS version number and basic hardware req's only.

=

Maybe compatible if you have 5000 things in mind.

3.

Length of installation instructions

Installation instructions are ALWAYS substantially longer under Windows than under MacOS. First are not under any circumstances in more detail than its Mac counterpart, but dealing with the characteristics of the windy operating system. This blows installation instructions for Windows programs duly up.

=

Simply as it is.

=

"Insert the disk and follow the instructions on the screen."

4a.

Drive Organisation 1

Directly after starting the MacOS you see all attached disk drives arranged right in a column, the boot drive at the top most location.
To see connected drives in Windows, first you have to click on "My computer".

=

Well, if that is no service!

=

(imagines:) "Who's interested..."

4b.

Drive Organisation 2

MacOS X, as well as previous MacOS versions, does not know drive letters! Drives are differentiated by name. System files can be installed on each drive connected and with the Control Panel "Boot Volume" just select one of them to boot from. Usually installed programs can be moved without problem to another drives and/or folders and in most cases they still work.

=

Another Plus for MacOS!

=

Trips into the basic input/output system of the box are inevitable.

5.

Menu lines

MacOS knows one menu line only, which is located on the top of the screen. Individual menu options are active (and selectable) only, if they apply to the object selected.

=

Catch it?

=

In each window new opened, Windows bombards you with a new menu line.

6.

"Finished searching the document."

Searching for text in a HTML document using MSIE, you just get the msg "Finished searching the document.", like you can see on the left. The Mac version of MSIE, even no longer available, tells "The text 'blahblahblah' has not been found." Compare it for yourself and you'll decide to buy a computer which tells you clear messages instead of the msgs of computers driven by windy operating systems.

=

Suddenly the user knows, what's wrong.

=

Yes, but what is the result of searching the document?

7.

Memory Management

MacOS recognizes, if a program is already opened. Only one instance of an application is active. If you open a further document of this application from Finder now, just simply another window within this application will be opened, but not the entire program will be loaded into the RAM a second time.

=

Hopefully the main memory is enough.

=

Hundreds of instances of a program could be opened.

8.

System Extensions and Preferences

System Extensions are developed modular, stored separetely to the hard disk. If you want to remove one extension, simply delete it and re-start the computer.

In Windows, each system extension leaves its traces in all of the configuration files, which are gradually been blown up and so they will slow down the system.

=

Wash and wear

=

One expenditure-brakes

9.

The Recycle Bin

The Recycle Bin of MacOS, just called "Trash", has almost unlimited capacity, so much as the drive capacity can hold. Please empty it regularly, in order to set drive space free again. In Windows just adjust, how much percent of the drive capacity the Recycle Bin may occupy.

Speaking of the Recycle Bin, please watch the following issue on the Mac:
If the Trash is empty, put in an USB stick where you moved files to the Trash before.
While the USB stick is connected, the Mac Trash will became the 'filled' icon. There is no need to re-format the USB stick to get free space again, just empty the Trash now.
Put Windows in here

=

If you are completely sure you'll no longer need the files moved to the Recycle Bin, then just empty it.

=

I'm not sure, will the Recycle Bin emptied automatically (even non-confirmed by the user), when reached the capacity line?

Mac hint: If you pop in an USB stick, for example, which includes files moved to the Recycle Bin, you'll notice the Recycle Bin will get the "full" symbol. If you want the files finally deleted , choose "Empty Trash" from Finder menu item now.

10.

Removeable Media

Removeable data medias (CD's/DVD's) are not ejected by means of an ejection button located at the drive, instead of the System Software will eject it at your request, of possible. To do so drag the medium onto the Recycle Bin, it will became an eject icon. Windows users may object here that the medium would have actually to be deleted, but that's wrong. Using this method is guaranteed that the medium will be not ejected, if contains files still files open. Force eject medias containing files still open would lead at worst to overrun.

When you've been asked to replace an exchangeable media by another, for example the Sims 1 installation , you'll be directed to remove the current one and just put in the requested media. The application still waits for it and will automatically continue if the requested media has been inserted.

"Please insert 'The Sims - Hot date' into CD drive or press 'quit'."

=

"The procedure could not be finished, 'cause the volume 'Thrillride' is in use".

=

Your application weights at next opportunity that the CD-ROM is missing.

11.

Number of Mouse Buttons

Most Windows users miss a second (third, fourth, ...) mouse button on the Apple standard mouse. USB Mice offered by third-party developers (including Microsoft) also works on the Mac. The mouse buttons can be assigned to certain actions. Even USB Joysticks works with the Mac. A so-called Right-click on the Mac is simulated by pressing the CTRL key and the mouse button simultaneously. If an application supports right-click technology, like on Windows a Pulldown menu will be opened.

Apple heard you and developed the Mighty Mouse with a larger amount of Mouse buttons as before.

=

Right-click technology included in MacOS X withouth the need of a second mouse button

=

Without mouse (first dismissed by PC users as toy) user-friendliness has gone.

12.

Booting the Macintosh

The Mac also boots without any keyboards and mouse attached. The mouse should be attached at least, so the equipment remains operateable by the user.

=

Kein Problem für den Macintosh.

=

Ohne Tastatur bootet die DOSe nicht.

=

No problem for the Macintosh

=

Without keyboard the box does not boot.

13.

Applications in background

In MacOS each program can be faded out itself. It remains in the memory, however it's moved to the background and isjust no longer visible. You can hide "Other Applications", as it means in the Application menu: Then the active application is the only programm visible at the screen, other applications are hidden.

=

More flexibility

=

Can only "Other Applications" fade out by means of this Buttons:

14.

System Preferences

In the System Preferences application, set the Mac settings by your wishes. The System Prefereneces are divided into the ranges "Personally", "Hardware", "Internet & Network", "System" and, if necessary, "Other". The "Other" part lists third-party settings, if installed.

All abroaded

=

Tons of bad stuff is available.

16.

On the Macintosh I can't run my PC based games

That's a wrong mind, too. Much interpreters from the Linux world found its way to the MacOS X thanks to its UNIX base: For example ScummVM, DOSBox, FreeSCI.

=

"Resembles more and more to Windows".

=

Even also available (and partially needed) for more recent windy OS PC systems

17.

Copying Files

Windows copies files until the disk is full, w/o testing if all the stuff has room on its new place. MacOS looks first, whether there is room enough for all the files you want to copy and warns you before the copying process will be cancelled because of that.

=

Let me see if enough space is available before I start to copy.

=

Let's go (until the "unexpected" stop)
